Being an artist and working with my hands all the time I realize the importance of my hands and feel so blessed to have them to be able to be creative in many aspects. I love to express myself with my hands and got thinking how our hands can tell our life stories.
Some having a harsher life than others. But what really got me thinking was the potential that little hands have to make such a difference in the world.
To think that kids have been yelled at by some to keep their fingerprints off the glass, furniture ect and how sad that really is. Kids need to be encouraged to express themselves with their hands and for us to understand that their little hand prints are their special unique little marks on the world~ The beginning of a new world of exploration!
When my youngest daughter was very small but still old enough to doodle a couple of words and pictures she did so on our bedroom door in a little corner. One day I noticed it and my first reaction was "she shouldn't be writing on the door"! And then when I read the tiny story of her frog and the little words that followed..."rib bit little froggy I love you"... I melted and thought what a sweet little gift she had left me.. she was there, she left her creative mark for all to see ( not that I have guided tours through my bedroom... but it was out in the open for all of us to enjoy) If we look at things differently and walk that fine line to help our child move in the right direction but with a freedom to be creatively expressive ,I feel that much more beauty can not only be expressed but felt as well. Our hands hold so much beautiful potential whether it is showing love through a caress or making a meal for those we care about, our hands are beautiful extensions of what is in our hearts.
We since have moved from the house where Nicosha left her little "gift" of expression and one thing that was on my mind was to get a picture of that little froggie sand her" little message" on the door before we moved. I am sad to say that with all the commotion of moving a 3,000 sq foot house,We left forgetting to take those pictures, but that will forever be in my heart... that beautiful little piece of herself she wanted to share with us on our bedroom door .... I smile every time I think of it!
Always try and see things from a different perspective.. you never know what beautiful gift you may receive just by doing so...

A beautiful post Sherri! When my 4 yr old grandson is with me and says "Let's make art, Ahmmie!" I pull the tablecloth off the diningroom table, pile on the art supplies and let him go for it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved from a large 3 bedroom house to a small 2 bedroom apartment, I had to massively pare down my belongings. But, I kept this old, beaten up table because of him - to give him the space for his creativity without having to worry about marks, dots of paint, etc.
It's easier on my heart & spirit to toss a tablecloth over the top than it would be to limit him or chide him for his beautiful, creative splashes and spills.
Thanks for a lovely post that made me smile!!
Thank you for stopping by Cynthia~ and thanks for sharing your wonderful story with us~ have a beautiful day!
DeleteWhat a sweet, beautiful post. It seems to me like your daughter had more common sense than most adults...she wrote her little message in a place where it would be special to YOU, but not in a place that would mess things up, like your living room wall. It sounds to me like she knew EXACTLY what she was doing, and I love it!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. And thank you for being the kind of lovely person who can see the creativity in what she did, instead of worrying about silly things like fingerprints on glass :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Vicki,so glad you enjoyed and thanks so much for the kind words:) Thank you also for sharing your beautiful thoughts and have a wonderful day!!
DeleteThis is such a sweet story...I wish I had had a Mom like you when I was little. Mine is the "children are to be seen and not heard" and heaven only knows what punishment writing on the door would have warranted.
ReplyDeleteAww.. Su you are very sweet~ we all have our own journeys to walk but it is nice to see that you can see the other side now too and realize for yourself what is important in life~ have a beautiful day and thank you for sharing!
Deleteawwww!! loved this!
ReplyDelete<3 Sandi!
DeleteThis is a lovely post. You are right. If we all looked at things from a different perspective what a wonderful world this would be.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you enjoyed Judy:) And Thank you for visiting!!
DeleteThat is a lovely story Sherri and it is wonderful to see how their creativity comes out. My kids would be most surprised at being told not to draw on the walls as I have been drawing on the walls of our home since before they were born they think that is what people do ;~D
ReplyDeleteYes Monique... they are "true, from the heart" works of art! have a beautiful day and thanks for joining us!!
DeleteI love this and you wrote it very well. I would be the same way wanting to take a picture of it but you have done yourself one better by writing this blog. :)
