Being Thankful , Not just for what we have..But also for what we have lost"

I know that seems like such a strange thing to say for we never really want to loose anything we love or enjoy! But yesterday I had a very interesting situation happen ... As you all know  I create jewelry and mixed media and was wearing several of my leather wrapped bracelets while touring the campus of Alfred State College (as a potential college choice , and yes she loved it and will be attending Alfred in  fall 2013!) for my daughter Nicosha.

While listening to the college administration speak I all of a sudden felt a "naked draft" on my wrist , looking down to find one of the wraps missing... I retraced the steps in my head and finally came to the conclusion it was gone and felt sad. At that same moment I sent that bracelet" a prayer" and was hoping it would seek out its new owner as someone who was having a rough time and the surprise of finding that bracelet would make that person happy ,offer hope and brighten their day.

So I sent that thought into the universe and didn't think again of it for the rest of the day. I happen to believe that everything happens for a reason and if I loose something it is because someone else needs it more for whatever reason ... and  I am happy and thankful to belong to that realm of thought within the universe.  I was equally as happy when I heard my daughter Nicosha say (after realizing that I had lost it in the beginning)..."Mom it will be a nice gift for someone to receive when they find it today:) I am so happy that through the years  she has come to understand that way of thinking about others and life as well! As a mom that was a proud moment<3

When we got home later that day and we got out of the car
Nicosha yelled "MOM"... and held up the bracelet I had lost earlier.. it apparently had slipped off in the car... Funny as the  first thing I felt was sadness.. thinking that it now couldn't touch someone's  life  in a positive way.. but maybe the  "gift"  was intended for me..  in a heart felt way ....reinforcing the thought that when we let go of something dear, you in return are blessed with something more special that  may have been  needed in your life for that day, that week or a lesson or understanding about love  that we now can carry for the rest of our lives.

And once again I feel incredibly blessed for so many reasons.. even by  this small little twist  in the journey we call" Life". Life is beautiful and however it plays out ... we receive so many blessings each and every day!
In Love and Faith~

  5. A beautiful post, Sherri. Funny that, when I reached the part where your daughter found the bracelet wrap back at home, I also felt an element of sadness for the person who missed out on finding a treasure to make their spirits brighter and more positive. I too believe things happen for reasons so it was meant to be that it stayed with you.

    1. Hi Lynn~ if you let yourself see it as such. I feel that's how life is.. when you "give up" or "let go" of something you love for whatever reason.. life fills you with a such a richness and beauty that you would not have realized or received had you held on~ Thank you for visiting and may your day be filled with love and faith~

  7. Good story, Sherri. As the Bible says, "better to give than to receive" and that's what you were feeling. The joy of giving. I just returned from a trip to the country of Georgia and was able to give away two of my handmade bracelets there. It added to a bond with each of those two ladies.
