~ Creating Lovely Primitive Background Art~ Proxxon Design team Project by Sherri Welser

~ Creating Lovely  Primitive Background Art~

Being an artist I enjoy creating from the simplest of things! This week's project is created from a simple block of wood and Proxxon Power Carver tool! The tool was easy to use and had a variety of cutting gouges. I wanted to create wood blocks with texture such as a  rubber stamp would offer, to then add some background interest for my artwork. Here is where using the Power Carver tool came in handy!
Check out the Proxxon Blog for more details on this fun project!

Happy Creating!

~REVAMPING~ "Whats Old Becomes New Again" Proxxon DT Project by Sherri Welser

~REVAMPING~

"Whats Old Becomes New Again"

As many of you know who follow my projects, I LOVE to find old objects and make them "new" again. I was at my local ReStore and found this old Bakers Rack and thought it would make a great potting bench outside my new art studio! Before I started "ReVamping" it it was white, rusty and the wood block on top was stained and gross!  Come and see how I ReVamped this once ugly Bakers rack with a couple of supplies and a little TLC!
Enjoy!

Vintage Embellishing~ Proxxon DT Project by Sherri Welser

~Vintage Embellishing~

Even before it was a "Thing" I was perusing garage and estate sales looking for fun items to reinvent! I would find all kinds of tables and do the faux marble tops, a church pew was placed in the garden for setting plants on,old bicycles with the metal baskets were planted with flowers and they became unique focals in the flower garden. I have always loved finding these treasures and turning them into  Garden Art! Last fall I found an old church window with beautiful lines and even though some of the glass was broken I had a vision! Recently I found both a long wooden table and an old  wooden sewing machine table( both inexpensive finds at my local ReStore) with the beautiful metal work on it and the word "Singer" across the bottom~ these all are on my radar now to make beautiful again and here you will see several of those items come to life!  Visit the Proxxon Blog to see the fun creations I will be embellishing!

~Family Treasures~ Proxxon DT Project by WildHeart Art

~Family Treasures~

I am always looking for unique ways to do "the ordinary" so when I came across this wonderful family photo I wanted to find a fun  and unique way to display it. This is actually a picture of my Grandpa and Grandma with their children, my aunt and mom are on the end. I love the way I was able to capture the vintage feel of this project.

~Santa Clause is Coming to Town~ PROXXON DT Wooden Whimsy Project by Sherri Welser

Santa Clause is Coming to Town"

Christmas time  is my most favorite time of the year and I love to decorate my house with beautiful white lights and whimsy! To create this whimsical wooden piece I used wooden scraps from the recent building  of my  art studio. The Santa shape was a broken piece of 2 x 4 so I just went with that shape(  it resembled an old fashioned Santa with his tall hat on). For the birdhouse hole I just found a 2 x4 with a knot hole in it! I also wanted it to look distressed so I did some steps below to create that look. So come and join me for some holiday whimsy!

~Supplies~
Scrap pieces of 2 x 4 - from 1-2 feet in length
Acrylic paints ( white, black, skin tone, red, blue and green)
Modeling paste
Palette knife
Glue gun/glue sticks
Crooked wooden stick for the walking stick
 Vintage metal key
Paper  holiday ephemera
Gold Gel Pen

~Steps~
1) Decide what size you want to make your wooden cut outs and cut them using the Proxxon Scroll Saw DSH-E
2) Using the Delta Sander OZI-E sand the edges of the pieces.
3) Using the acrylics paint all your wooden pieces and let dry. I used the Tim Holtz line of distressed crackle paint for the birdhouse in white after using a blue ink pad to add some color as a distressing factor.I also added a small broken piece of stick for the perch on the birdhouse.
4) Distress  the edges of the other pieces with a sepia ink pad.
5)To assemble, I used the glue gun to glue things in place.
6) Use the skin tone paint and paint an area on Santa for his face and beard.
7)Use the modeling paste to create the  beard on Santa and the effect of snow on the wooden pieces with a palette knife and let dry.
8) Use your chosen items of ephemera for decorating your whimsical pieces. Glue down with your glue gun.
9) Use your gold gel pen to do some detail work on Santa.
This is such a fun creative project and I hope you have as much fun as I did!

 Have fun and Happy Holidays!!

"Find Your Happy Place" Vintage Wooden Houses~ Proxxon Design Team Project

"Find Your Happy Place"

Creating with PROXXON Tools

I Love to work with wood and making little Vintage houses is so much fun! For this project I used the PROXXON Scroll saw and Delta Sander to create these lovely little houses. The supplies I used are listed below

Supplies
 5 Random sizes of 2 x4
(the sizes I used were from 6" to 12" tall- 4 houses and the base)
Crackle Paint ( I used Tim Holtz Distressed Crackle Paint)
Antique Glaze
Glue Gun
Glossy Accents
Assorted pieces of metal and paper ephemera, trinkets, charms and small doorknobs, anything that you feel would be a fun addition to your houses!
Acrylic paint
Gold Gel Pen
4 large Screws
Cooper wire for beading on the roof

1) I began with finding some random sizes of lumber.. 2x4s and some small scraps of thinner wood for the roofs. I cut the 2x4s
( with the scroll saw) into misc heights and sanded ( using the Delta sander)  the rough edges.. but still left some rough patches  to to give the appearance of weathered wood. I then cut the smaller pieces of wood into several triangular pieces for the roofs.

2)I wanted the look of old worn wood so I then painted the 2 x 4s that would be the houses with the crackle paint.

3)Here you can see the pieces all painted with an antiquing medium finish.
4)I set all the pieces in front of me with all the fun items to get an idea of how I wanted to design the houses.I used the glue gun to adhere most of the items to the houses.

5)I used the glossy accents to fill in some of the metal trinkets after adding vintage papers. I also used the gold gel pen to add doodles.
6)The final step is to screw the 4 houses to the bottom base piece.
I had so much fun decorating these sweet little houses with all sorts of metal trinkets, paper ephemera and inspirational words!
Here you can see why it is called "Find Your Happy Place"

Here I thought it would be fun to use a funky wine cork for the chimney!

I love this little bird in flight and adding that fun whimsy!

Here I added some copper wire and beads on top to add an interesting element and bring your eye                                                                               upwards.

PROXXON makes creating these interesting and fun creations so much easier with their wonderful tools!
Happy Creating!
